What support was provided

Funding for “Sustainable Schools” programme, enabling and Education Officer to work with 5 local primary schools in areas of high deprivation to reconnect children to the land and their food, improving awareness of origin, nutrition and sustainable farming practices.

What was achieved

Outdoor, active learning in line with ESDG, Science, Literacy and PSHE elements of the curriculum, including:

  • School farms established and “Seed to Plate” projects: children grow plants to harvest, prepare and eat as pizza and soup
  • Farm visits for children to benefit from outdoor learning and hands-on farming
  • Pollination and the importance of bees explored
  • Environmental impacts of food miles and packaging investigated
